‘Darkforce’ in ‘Agent Carter’ season 2 links to ‘Doctor Strange’ and ‘Agents of SHIELD’

Agent Carter returns next week and promises to be adding classic Marvel villains, canon Marvel storylines, and even supernatural Marvel elements like the Darkforce, found in Doctor Strange.

Comic Book Resources spoke with Agent Carter showrunners Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters about the upcoming season and the duo claims that season two will introduce a substance called “Darkforce”, which will serve as a direct tie-in to this year’s film, Doctor Strange and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

You’ll learn more about that in Season 2, but they stumble upon what people in the Marvel Universe will know as Darkforce, but because they’ve never seen it before they just name it Zero Matter. That’s our tie-in to the ‘Doctor Strange’ universe, and also to ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ because you’ve seen it in ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ as well.”

Back in season one, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. first explored the idea of Darkforce/Zero Energy as Director Coulson stated that Blackout derived his powered from the Darkforce. This Darkforce will also come again in the forthcoming Doctor Strange movie, which hits theaters in November of this year.

Benedict-Cumberbatch-as-Doctor-Strange-2Even though Agent Carter is set in the ’40s and can’t have a linear storyline that joins to an MCU film (like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Captain America: Winter Soldier), it can introduce technology, supernatural forces, characters and so many other things that will be featured in the films.

Hayley Atwell’s Carter heads to California in season two with the promised return of Edwin Jarvis (James D’Arcy), Howard Stark (Dominic Cooper) and other members of the S.S.R.

Also back are Enver Gjokaj as Daniel Sousa, Chad Michael Murray as Jack Thompson and Bridget Regan as Dottie Underwood. Lyndsy Fonseca has not been confirmed to return as Peggy’s pal Angie.

Notable newcomers to the show include Wynn Everett as Whitney Frost, Peggy’s new nemesis (her supervillain identity is hinted at on that clapperboard), and Reggie Austin as Jason Wilkes, a potential love interest. There’s also Ken Marino as crime boss Joseph Manfredi, Lotte Verbeek as Ana Jarvis, Kurtwood Smith as War Department vet Vernon Masters, and Currie Graham as Whitney’s husband Calvin Chadwick.

Agent Carter Season 2 kicks off Tuesday, January 19 at 9/8c with a special two-hour premiere.
