‘Dark Knight Rises’ consumes Internet with Viral campaign, Bane photo
Christopher Nolan’s sequel to “Dark Knight” is drawing incredible attention from fans and this week didn’t disappoint. This week “Body of Lies” star Alon Aboutboul joined the cast as “The Dark Knight Rises” production shifted from India to London. Of course, everything was overshadowed yesterday when a photo of Tom Hardy as Bane was released.
Warner Bros. kicked off a new website, included a short soundtrack sliver and tweeted the information sending bloggers and rumor mongers into a frenzy.
Neither Warner Bros. nor Nolan have announced the role Aboutboul will play in “Rises” as fans speculate about a “mad scientist” or possibly the long rumored villain Hugo Strange. Alon Aboutboul mostly recently made appearances on “Castle”, “Fringe” and “The Mentalist.”
A week ago, as production started, aerial shots in India revealed what appeared to be the Lazarus Pit, possible confirming flashback sequences with Ra’s al Ghul (played by Josh Pence) and fans were convinced that a Christian Bale makeup test was tied to Bane thrashing Batman/Bruce Wayne.
Now we have confirmation of filming in London all this week and fans are snapping set photos, flooding the Internet with candid sneak peaks at “Rises”. From SWAT vans from Gotham City, to large lighting setups in the streets, and to random alleged sightings of the stars, fans are devouring every nugget of information, no matter small or trivial.
If “Dark Knight” wasn’t such a successful sequel to “Batman Begins” fans would have little patience for this style of marketing and concern themselves about “too much hype” – that doesn’t appear to be the case with “Rises.”
“The Dark Knight Rises” comes to theaters on July 20, 2012.
