Damian Lewis says ‘Homeland’ season 3 will reveals Brody ties to CIA and his motivations

Homeland‘s Damian Lewis has revealed that his character Sgt Nicholas Brody will be in a very dark place in season three.

Sgt Brody has appeared conflicted between his status as a US military hero and his true ties with terrorists throughout Homeland‘s first two seasons.

In an interview with Access Hollywood, Lewis hinted that the only thing preventing Brody from ending his life in season three will be his love of his children.

“There are points in season three where you will question whether Brody does want to live,” Lewis said.

He continued: “Uppermost in his mind is his family, always. But, honestly, at this point, if he’s caught, he’s going to the chair.

“There is so much overwhelming evidence against him and there is such a great need for a scapegoat and for the CIA to make a recovery, and for the US president, that fictional president who is there at the White House at the time, to make a recovery [and] bring someone to justice.”

Lewis also teased that Homeland‘s upcoming episodes will take an in-depth look at the terrorist attack that rocked the CIA headquarters at the end of season two.

“It’s as appalling at the end of season two as what happened in 9/11,” the actor said. “It’s within the CIA.

“It went right to the heart of the intelligence community and I think Brody is just trying to stay alive, and the pressure of trying to stay alive is actually, is what – you see will make him crumble.”
