D23: ‘Ralph Breaks the Internet Wreck-It Ralph 2’ details confirm Disney princesses, lots of jokes in teaser

Disney revealed concrete details about Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2, explaining that Ralph’s adventure will take him to the websites for popular Disney franchises, including Marvel and Star Wars, but more surprisingly, Ralph will meet up with many of the Disney princesses, who will come together for the first time in a feature film.

During the panel, the voice actors behind the famous Disney characters, including Kristen Bell (Anna from Frozen), Jodi Benson (Ariel in The Little Mermaid), Auli‘i Cravalho (Moana), and Paige O’Hara (Belle from Beauty and the Beast), to name a few, were brought out on stage. Others confirmed for at least a cameo: Ming-Na Wen of Mulan, Pochahontas’s Irene Bedard, Tangled’s Mandy Moore,The Princess and the Frog’s Anika Noni Rose and Frozen’s Idina Menzel.

Finally, Taraji P. Henson (Hidden Figureshas also joined the cast for the sequel as an Internet expert named Yesss.

Ralph, voiced by John C. Reilly, will again be joined in the sequel by Sarah Silverman, who played the video game character Vanellope in the first animated film.

THR summarized: “Henson will play Yess, a trend-aholic algorithm who acts like a guide to Ralph (John C. Reilly) and Vanellope (Sarah Silverman). The story sees the duo’s game break down and require a replacement part, causing the characters to venture into the wild world of the internet.”

The Vulture reports that “every” Princess will be included, but that’s a bit hyperbolic, but most will show up at some point in the new film.

Directors Rich Moore (who won an Oscar earlier this year for Zootopia) and Phil Johnston, were onstage to present a clip of the movie — a clip that drove the assembled crowd of roughly 7,000 into wild cheers.

The clip showed Vanellope, in a website named OhMyDisney.com, meeting all the Disney princesses in the hopes of stirring up some trouble. But as she interacts with them — in ways that, in rapid succession, lovingly skewer the history and tropes of Disney animated classics and princesses — she develops a respect for them. And she gives them a wardrobe change.

Ariel is so psyched by her casualwear that she nearly breaks into a leisure-themed reprise of “Part of Your World.”) And though Vanellope initially wanted to prank the princesses, she quickly finds she’s got a lot in common with most of them … even if she can’t understand a word said by Brave’s Merida, who speaks in a thick Scottish brogue. “She’s from the other studio,” explains one catty princess.

Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 will be arriving in theaters on on November 21, 2018.
