Credit card thieves Jim Ovecka, Michelle Chapman, came from Texas to Florida Keys, dead in murder suicide
Two people found dead in a running car in the Florida Keys appear to have been killed in a murder-suicide, detectives in the Keys said.
Jim Ovecka, age 49, and Michelle Chapman, age 54, were found dead in a Honda Element, which was still running, by a local Monroe County Mosquito Control employee.
A hose was taped over the tailpipe and Monroe detectives said Ovecka shot Chapman in the head before shooting himself.
The couple were admitted credit card thieves, running a restaurant in Texas, overcharging accounts for a total of $200,000.
According to the Corpus Christi Caller-Times, the two pleaded guilty, were put on probation and ordered to pay more than $102,000 restitution to credit-card companies, including $15,000 within 30 days. It was unknown whether Ovecka and Chapman had court permission to travel out of Texas.
Authorities had reported the pair had driver’s licenses indicating they were living in Arizona, which is where they were arrested by US Marshals back in February.
During the arrest, reports revealed the $800 bill was turning into an $8,000 credit card mistake or something like that – more HERE
