Colorado student Ahmed Sameer Almesbahi charged for ‘forcing abortion’ on wife with skewer
A student at University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, Ahmed Sameer Almesbahi, has been charged with 11 counts including unlawful termination of a pregnancy and sexual assault, after a woman claimed he forced her to undergo an abortion against her will.
Almesbahi, 23, allegedly performed the forced abortion himself, with a shish kebab skewer.
Almesbahi, a native of Saudi Arabia, was studying in the U.S. on a student visa. The alleged victim claims she and Almesbahi were married through an Islamic ceremony, while Almesbahi claims the woman was simply his girlfriend, according to The Gazette.
The couple met in 2012 on a website for Muslim dating and lived together in Denver. He has banned from campus because of the charges against him.
“Because of the severity of charges against him, he is excluded from the UCCS campus until further notice,” Tom Hutton, a university spokesman, said in a statement. “The case is being handled by the Colorado Springs Police Department and all inquiries should be directed to the department.”
Almesbahi is also charged with witness intimidation, alleging that he threatened the woman to stay away from court after he was cited for domestic violence in 2015. The charges in that case were ultimately dismissed.
Almesbahi, who police say comes from a wealthy family, allegedly told the woman that “his father would kill him unless we got rid of the pregnancy,” authorities allege.
Police said the victim “has been very hesitant to participate at times during this investigation because of fear of getting Mr. Almesbahi into trouble.”
