Cold Case: Greg Agnew arrested for murdering wife Martha Agnew, connected to Tammy Niver case
Tammy Niver had seemingly vanished in 1993, but a Michigan man has been arrested and allegedly connected to Niver’s death.
Greg Agnew, 50, was arraigned Friday afternoon at the Washtenaw County Court, charged with open murder in the death of his wife, Martha Agnew. Martha, 49, was found dead by her daughter in her Ypsilanti Township home on February 17, 2018.
“She got into the home and found her mother deceased,” said Derrick Jackson, Director of Community Engagement with the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office. “Since that time we’ve really been trying to find out what’s actually been going on.”
From the beginning, deputies thought the death was questionable.
“It was suspicious,” Jackson said. “There was nothing clear. No blunt force trauma or anything like that.”
At the arraignment prosecutors also brought up a cold case Agnew is a prime suspect in; the 1993 disappearance of his girlfriend, Niver.
Tammy has not been seen since she went to visit Agnew on August 7, 1993. The car was found abandoned with the keys still in the ignition.
Both women were ending relationships with Agnew, 50, of Ypsilanti Township, at the time of their demise. Since Martha Agnew’s death, police have searched and seized his client’s possessions and prosecutors have issued investigative subpoenas. Tammy’s case has now been reopened.
