Clayton Whittemore was in court on Tuesday as his attorney successfully delayed the trial again. This is the fourth delay in the case, but the Judge stated Tuesday that this will be the last.

Whittemore, now age 22, of New Hartford, Oneida County, beat Alexandra Kogut to death in her dorm room on Sept. 29, 2012 – just weeks into Kogut’s freshman year at Brockport.

13WHAM and other local media outlets convinced the court to release evidence showing Whittemore discussing the crime with investigators, which includes a recorded confession.

In the recorded interview with State Police,  Whittemore matter-of-factly recounts beating Alex to death.

“She was like breathing and it seemed like it was going to stop,” Whittemore told police Investigator William Casey. “I felt like that’s like when everything like really started hitting me, what the hell was going on. I got scared. I hit her in the head probably four more times. I wanted to take her out of the misery.”

It was reported that he said he “just snapped,” and this is the full statement: “She started pushing me a little bit, hitting me, kind of. Nothing that really hurt me, and that’s when I snapped.”

The trial is not set for May.
