Clarence Bright’s dead body stolen by son to attempt a ‘resurrect him’
Family and friends of a dead 92-year-old Michigan man confirmed that the man’s body was stolen by his son for an ” attempted resurrection.”
Police in Detroit, Michigan say a coffin was stolen from the Gethsemane Cemetery before workers had a chance to bury the body.
Sources reported that someone is trying to resurrect the man inside. Police believe a purple pick-up and a white van drove out with the coffin on Monday.
Tuesday it was confirmed by authorities that the son stole the body and stored the corpse in a freezer after the weekend funeral, hoping for it to be miraculously resurrected, police said.
Clarence Bright’s 48-year-old religious son was arrested along with another man after officers found an empty casket inside their van at a gas station, Detroit police said.
“This is a very, very bizarre situation,” Leon Jones, a mortician’s assistant at Swanson Funeral Home, told The Associated Press. The funeral home handled Bright’s funeral.
Police declined to release the names of Bright’s son or the 38-year-old man who was with him. They had not been charged and the theft remained under investigation.
