Christian Ministry Announces Christian Persecution in Nepal is on the Rise
(International Christian Concern) –Open Doors, a Christian ministry that monitors global Christian persecution, has claimed that the persecution of Christians in Nepal on the rise. This has led the ministry to rank Nepal among the world’s top 50 worst persecutors of Christians.
“It’s becoming harder for Christians in Nepal to practice their faith,” Open Doors recently claimed. “Any Christian talking about Christianity can be falsely accused of converting now, and there are several such incidents taking place.”
The increase in persecution started when the Nepalese government introduced and enacted a sweeping anti-conversion law. According to that law, anyone who causes an individual to convert from one religion to another can be punished with up to five years in prison and a fine.
Radical Hindu nationalists within Nepal, who want to see the country reestablished as a Hindu kingdom, have taken advantage of the country’s anti-conversion law. Using the new law, radicals accuse Christians of attempting religious conversions for merely sharing their faith. These developments have led Open Doors to rank Nepal number 32 on their World Watch List.
