Chris Pine says ‘Star Trek 2’ will have comedy and a bigger threat
Chris Pine is currently shooting the Jack Ryan reboot, but took out time to give fans an update on the “Star Trek” sequel. Pine says the sequel will keep the comedic elements, but the U.S.S. Enterprise crew will face a ‘bigger threat.’
Featured in the brand new Sci-Fi themed Total Film magazine, Pine spoke exclusively with Total Film in an interview which was posted Saturday.
“We’re not making Batman. That’s not our deal,” Pine said describing the tone of the film.
“There’s comedy, which I think J.J. does a great job of, but, like the first one, there’s some serious issues being dealt with. And I’d say the threat is even greater in this one.”
Benedict Cumberbatch is the main villain and is constantly denying rumors of playing Khan. While there has no real details, Pine’s comments cement a formidable character played by the “War Horse” star.
“The force [the Enterprise crew] are met with is much more frightening. It’s relentlessly action-packed and in terms of character development it goes places you’d never expect. The arc is huge for all the characters. It’s a really big story – I can’t hype it enough!”
Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Zoe Saldana, Anton Yelchin, John Cho and Bruce Greenwood all return to the U.S.S. Enterprise, reprising their respective Federation characters. Peter Weller, Alice Eve and Cumberbatch join the cast for the second film.
“Trek 2” officially comes to theaters on May 17, 2013.
