Chinese boy has eyes ‘gouged out’ by likely organ traffickers, police investigating
In a sad and gruesome story out of China, a 6-year-old boy from the northern province of Shanxi was reportedly drugged and had his eyes gouged out as alleged organ traffickers sought his corneas, according to an AFP report.
According to the report, the boy, Xiao Binbin was outside playing when he was tricked by a woman into a field where he was drugged prior to the brutal and gory crime.
A police officer at the scene said he couldn’t speculate on a motive because the investigation was continuing. What they found there was the boy’s two eyeballs; however, the corneas were reported missing.
His parents noticed he was missing and organized a search for the boy. They found him hours after he had disappeared in a nearby field, with a bloody face. His father told a Chinese news agency that at first, he thought the boy had fallen and hurt himself, The Star reported Tuesday.
“He had blood all over his face. His eyelids were turned inside out. And inside, his eyeballs were not there,” his father told Shanxi Television, news reports said.
The attack has left him permanently blind.
The investigation continues. Police offered a 100,000 yuan reward for information leading to the arrest of the female suspect.
Reports of organ shortages in China are well-documented. About 300,000 patients have organ failure each year, but only about 10,000 transplants are done each year due to donor shortages, Xinhua reported.
