China reports two additional H7N9 cases from Zhejiang province
The Hong Kong Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health (DH) yesterday (February 28) received notification of two additional human cases of avian influenza A(H7N9) in Zhejiang from the National Health and Family Planning Commission.
The cases in Zhejiang involve two girls aged 6 and 7 who are currently hospitalized for treatment.
According to the CHP, this brings the total human cases of avian influenza A(H7N9) on Mainland China to 369. The European Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (ECDC) reported yesterday a slightly different total–370 cases, while FluTrackers puts the total at 379,
Since first seen in March 2013, there has been 116 fatalities (a case fatality rate of slightly more than 30 percent).
In related news, the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) has reported via the China Animal Disease Control Centre, Veterinary Bureau, Ministry of Agriculture in Beijing positive H7N9 sampling in two chicken sample from live poultry markets in two different Hunan province cities- Loudi and Changsha.
