China landslide results in one tourist killed from falling rocks, 18 injured
A landslide at a Chinese tourist spot, Jinsixia Gorge, has resulted in the death of at least one tourist and 18 injuries, according to a Xinhua report.
The fatal incident occurred Sunday morning in Shaanxi province.
Rocks that may have been loosened by recent heavy rains crashed through a cliff-side walkway and fell onto the heads of a group of tourists, according to a ABC News report.
Two of the injured are reportedly in critical condition.
Like much of northern China, the area has seen unusually heavy rain recently, although the past two days have been dry, according to the Chinese news source.
The gorge was closed to visitors following the accident.
Jinsixia Gorge boasts natural attractions such as caves and forests and the area is home to several tourist resorts.
