China confirms new H5 avian influenza case, more H7N9 cases
China’s National Health and Family Planning Commission has announced a new human case of avian influenza A (H5) in Hunan province, according to a Hong Kong CHP news release today.
The case was a 5-year-old girl who recovered and has been discharged from hospital.
According to a Wikipedia entry, Hunan is located in the south-central part of the country bordering Hubei in the north, Jiangxi to the east, Guangdong to the southeast, Guangxi to the southwest, Guizhou to the west, and Chongqing to the northwest.
In addition, Hong Kong health officials received notification from Mainland officials of four more human cases of avian influenza A(H7N9).
The new cases are from Guangzhou (three cases) and Foshan (one case).
The cases from Guangzhou involve a man aged 76 and two women aged 55 and 75 while the case in Foshan involves a man aged 33. They are currently hospitalized for treatment.
This brings the total cases reported from the Mainland to 361.
