Chewbacca confirmed for ‘Han Solo’ film, will be origin story
There is no surprise that the new Han Solo film will include Chewbacca, but Disney CEO Bob Iger has made it official – the Wookie will be there.
Iger was speaking about Rogue One‘s timeframe at the Deutsche Bank 2016 Media, Internet & Telecom Conference and made mention of the planned Han Solo pic.
“Rogue One … is about a band of rebels plotting to steal the plans to the Death Star. It takes place right before George Lucas‘s first film, which came out in 1977 and is now called ‘A New Hope.’ We have others in the works, including one, which is an origin story about Han Solo and Chewy, and that’ll come after Star Wars 8 in 2018. And then there will possibly be more thereafter.”
ComicBookmovie.com noted that “Short of a pretty major continuity change, it’s almost impossible to tell the tale ofHan Solo’s beginnings without including Chewbacca – but now we have confirmation that the iconic duo will not only cross paths in the Phil Lord and Christopher Miller-directed film, but Chewie’s origins will also be explored.”
