Cherish Perrywinkle laid to rest as her mother, Rayne Perrywinkle blames herself
Well over 1,000 people attended a viewing for Cherish Perrywinkle on Thursday at the Paxon Revival Center Church in Jacksonville. The funeral is Friday.
UPDATE: The Walmart video confirms Rayne Perrywinkle’s story as Donald Smith lures Cherish away from the family – more HERE
While the Perrywinkle family are not members of the church, the young girl reportedly visited at least one Sunday a month with the family of a neighborhood friend.
Pastor Steve Dobbs says Cherish’s mother, Rayne, has shared the pain she feels, blaming herself for what happened to her daughter.
“Mama’s angry at herself and mama told me, ‘I don’t care what the community says. There’s nothing that anybody says that hurts me anymore than I’ve hurt myself,” Dobbs told Action News. “I made a mistake and it cost the life of my daughter. I’ve done something that was crazy, and it cost me the life of my daughter. I love my daughter.'”
Donald Smith was a shopper at a dollar store who offered to take Rayne Perrywinkle and her three children to Wal-Mart to buy them McDonald’s and buy a dress for her 8-year-old daughter, she graciously accepted.
Smith was a predator who seized the opportunity to snatch the woman’s daughter and kill her.
The man was released May 31 but was still being monitored by authorities as a condition of parole. Officers even checked in on Smith the morning of June 21 in the home he shared with his mother. That same evening, he met Perrywinkle and her children.
Brandon Jones,
SIR, THE ARTICLE YOU PUBLISHED YESTERDAY [28 JUNE], HAS CONFLICTING INFORMATION WITH THE ARTICLE YOU PUBLISHED ON 23 JUNE.
IN THIS ARTICLE [DATED, 28 JUNE] YOU TYPE, “Donald Smith … offered to take Rayne Perriwinkle and her three children to Wal-Mart to buy them McDonald’s …;” BUT, Mr. Jones ON 23 JUNE YOU TYPED, “The three spent a couple of hours at Wal-Mart, until Smith offered to buy them hamburgers.” Mr. Jones, MY POINT IS TWOFOLD:
I). IN THE 23 JUNE ARTICLE YOU DID NOT MENTION Ms. Perriwinkle WAS ACCOMPANIED BY HER THREE CHILDREN – YOU ONLY MENTIONED, Cherish; AND,
II). IN THE 23 JUNE ARTICLE YOU STATED Mr. Smith OFFERED TO BUY HAMBURGERS AFTER THEY ARRIVED AT, Wal-Mart. BUT, IN YOUR 28 JUNE ARTICLE YOU STATED Mr. Smith OFFERED TO BUY HAMBURGERS WHEN HE FIRST CAME IN CONTACT WITH The Perriwinkles AT THE DOLLAR STORE.
MY POINT IS, Mr. Jones, IF Ms. Perriwinkle WAS ACCOMPANIED BY THREE CHILDREN, THAT HAS A PROFOUND IMPACT ON THE CIRCUMSTANCES OF WHY ONLY Cherish WALKED-AWAY WITH Mr. Smith TO GET THE HAMBURGERS. [People throughout the world should know most kids love “MickeyD’s;” so, it is logical to assume the two other children would have wanted to go with Cherish and Mr. Smith to get the hamburgers].
NOW, IN REFERENCE TO Mr. Smith’s legal situation LET US SAY WHILE Cherish AND Mr. Smith WALKED TO GET THE HAMBURGERS, Ms. Perriwinkle COLLAPSED, OR, WAS ABDUCTED. TECHNICALLY-SPEAKING – UNTIL OTHER ADULT FAMILY/GUARDIANS AND/OR LAW ENFORCEMENT ARRIVED – Mr. Smith WAS Cherish’s guardian. MY POINT IS, THE CRIMINAL-JUSTICE SYSTEM SHOULD REALIZE Ms. Perriwinkle ABDICATED HER AUTHORITY THE MOMENT Cherish WALKED-AWAY WITH Mr. Smith.
HENCE, THE COURT SHOULD GRANT Mr. Smith LENIENCY.
CHRISTOPHER ALLEN HORTON
