Chelsea Rendon interview: ‘McFarland USA,’ Kevin Costner, ‘The Bridge’ and ‘Bosch’
Actress Chelsea Rendon co-stars alongside Kevin Costner in an upcoming sports film, inspired by a true story. McFarland USA centers on a football coach (Costner) who is fired and lands at at California high school with a mostly Latino population of students.
Rendon talked with Dispatch Radio about this role, bringing the true story to life and many of her other projects.
Jim White (Costner) and his wife Cheryl (Maria Bello) begin a journey to transform a group of poor immigrants into a successful cross country team, Rendon explains. She plays Sonya, a “good girl” who is key in reaching out to the kids. Director Niko Caro (Whale Rider) is “amazing” and “easy to talk to,” says the young Latino actress.

Chelsea also reflects on her role as Esmerelda on The Bridge. He role is remember by fans as the episode (“The Beast”) is one of the fan favorites. She not only details how she got the role, discovered she was working with close friends, but what was the back story to her role.
Among her other roles, she talks about working on Bosch with Titus Welliver and how he “killed my father” as we easy to dislike on set, but was amazing to work with.
