Celebrity Advice for Adding Volume to Your Hair

The days of flat hair are wearing thing — a lot of women today are going back to the voluminous hair that was worn in the 80s and 90s. Some women were born with thick hair, while others have to do a bit more to get the look they want to achieve. A lot of the celebrities battle this same issue and have let us in on their secrets…

Don’t Wash Your Hair Everyday

There’s no need to shampoo your hair daily, says celebs. You should instead try to go a day in between washes. If needed, you can do a co-wash (using hair conditioner). When you wash your hair every day, it causes more oils to be produced, which makes your hair feel greasier faster — which means your hair will be weighed down.

Condition Every Time You Wash

Each time you wash your hair, you should condition it all over, unless you have fine hair, then only use it on the tips. Make sure to comb the conditioner through your hair to ensure even distribution. Start from the middle and work your way up.

Air Dry Your Hair 50%

Using blow dryers too much can destroy the volume in your hair. Allow your hair to air dry at least 50%, then rough-dry the rest. When blow drying your hair, make sure to set the temperature to medium. Blow dry your hair while your head is flipped upside down for a few seconds. Once its 90% dry, start using a round brush to style your hair with volume. It’ll leave your hair looking polished.

Layers Are Still Helpful

Cutting layers in your hair can add movement and volume to your hair. Make sure that the layers aren’t below your chin, this will cut into the thickness of your hair. When you leave the layers long, it gives the illusion of volume.
