Cathy Humphries pleads guilty in drunk driving hit-and-run death of Austin Houser
The woman charged with driving drunk and hitting and killing Austin Houser pleaded guilty Monday before Logan County Common Pleas Court Judge Mark S. O’Connor to three charges.
Cathy Humphries, age 49, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs; aggravated vehicular homicide, a second-degree felony; and failure to stop after a crash, a third-degree felony.
A mandatory prison sentence and a lifetime driver’s license revocation accompany the charges.
In exchange for the plea, a second misdemeanor OVI count and a third-degree felony charge of aggravated vehicular homicide were dismissed.
Humphries was driving a 1999 Ford Ranger pickup when the right front side of her pickup truck struck the 15-year-old boy.
He died instantly.
Tests of the defendant’s blood taken Oct. 25 showed the defendant had blood alcohol level of 0.278 percent, more than three times the legal limit, and that she had recently used marijuana.
