Casting Crowns lead singer Mark Hall calls for prayer after kidney cancer diagnosis

Mark Hall, the leader singer of Casting Crowns, announced on the band’s Facebook page that he has what doctors believe to be kidney cancer and coveted prayers from his fans, Christian brothers and sisters. His wife Melanie gave an update on Saturday – check it out below.

“Hey Casting Crowns Family,” Hall wrote. “I would appreciate your prayers.

“Doctors found a solid mass in my right kidney about a week ago. They are 90% sure it’s cancer and they are going to remove the entire kidney next Wednesday, March 11th. They believe the cancer is contained in the kidney, which is also a great hope. They will know more once it is out and Pathology can see it.

“I’ll be in recovery for a month or a little longer because of the surgery. Please pray for healing and for God’s peace for my family.

He signed the post, “Praising Him in This Storm, Mark Hall.”

Immediately after the singer wrote the post, the hashtag #prayingforMark began trending on social media.

From Michelle Hall:

We are in the middle of Disciple Now Weekend for 120 of our Middle School students at church. It’s a weekend for them to focus on their relationship with Jesus and their relationships with their friends as they study the Bible and talk about how it applies to their life. There are usually quite a number of students that make a decision to follow Jesus during this weekend. We have 60 high school students also very involved with DNow Weekend that will help lead and mentor the middle school students. Mentoring is an important part of what we do in Student Ministry at our church.

I share all of this with you for two reasons. First of all, would you please pray that God would use this weekend to speak to these students and draw them to Him? Pray that they would see that in these years of middle school when they often feel uncertain of themselves and their significance, that they will know that God says “I know the plans I have for you,…plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11)

Secondly, would you pray extra for Mark. As I said before, this event is very important for our middleschoolers and our church and he’s been working long hours to prepare for this weekend for a while, long before he got news of the storm he would be facing and the journey he would be on. He is teaching and leading because he loves these students and wants them to have a closer relationship to Jesus. He’s pouring quite a lot into the weekend physically, spiritually and emotionally, which has been a good distraction for him. However, I also know that he is very tired and is concerned about being away from the students for a month during recovery.

We’ve been overwhelmed by the outpouring of love from our friends, our church, crowns fans, and even complete strangers. If you think of it, we would really appreciate your prayers for these things, as well as for Mark’s complete healing. We are humbled that you are supporting us and walking this journey with us.

Trusting Him.
Melanie
