Cardenal Herrera University professor, Gloria Casanova, under scrutiny for controversial statements
A professor at a prestigious university in Moncada, Valencia, Spain is under fire for some statements she said to a journalism class recently, according to a ThinkSpain.com report Thursday.
Professor Gloria Casanova at the Cardenal Herrera University is taking criticism from local politicians and students alike for things she allegedly said during a Social Doctrine of the Church class.
It is reported that Casanova said in class, “Even if your husband is unfaithful, the proof of your love is to carry on loving him with tears in your eyes, just as Jesus wept on the Cross.”
In addition, it is claimed that she told students that homosexuality was ‘curable’ and that abortion following rape was ‘intolerable’. Pregnancy through rape was ‘something good which comes out of bad’ and was effectively God’s way of compensating the woman for her ordeal, was another statement allegedly said.
Casanova looks at the criticisms as being out of context, essentially saying it was thought-provoking and open for class debate.
Casanova’s statements have been criticized by local government officials as ‘offensive’, ‘homophobic’ and ‘sexist’, to name a few.
