The latest warning pertains to Trophy brand Nut Mix In Shell because they may be contaminated with Salmonella.

This  follows a recall April 4 when the Calgary, Alberta company recalled Trophy brand Hazelnuts In Shell.

This product has been distributed in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and may have been distributed to other provinces.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product.

Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.

Most individuals infected with Salmonella bacteria often experience diarrhea, fever, andabdominal cramps 12-72 hours after infection.  The duration of illness is typically 4-7 days and most people recover without treatment.

In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
