Can anyone save the planet? These personalities definitely have a crucial role

What images do you have in mind when you think on how last year looked in terms of environmental issues? Do you remember the video of the polar bear who was striving to find food? Have you seen pictures with glaciers that melt even during winter time? If you use to take walks in nature you may have noticed that the rivers that had a great flow when you were a child, now are dried-out. So the main question is what can we do to stop the process of world destruction? Can you do something? Who can be the hero of our planet?

Every year countries emit huge quantities of greenhouse gases and they still have not managed to get to an agreement on what measures they have to take in order to reduce the amount of the emissions. And the USA, the country everyone would expect to have a key role in saving the planet, is still reluctant to do something. Donald Trump simply considers that this is not a subject he should focus on, and we cannot wonder what would happen with his plans of making America great again, if the planet is destroyed? Does he imagine that America alone will survive?

There are important personalities around the world that do their best to develop their countries and to keep the environment as green as possible.  They are people who understand that climate change is the result of our actions, and we are responsible for solving it. Here are the heroes who bring a good change to our planet.

Leonardo DiCaprio

DiCaprio seems to deal with icebergs daily. You may think that they are part of the movies has filmed, but the iceberg from the Titanic is not the only one Leo had to deal with. He made a dramatic documentary called The 11th Hour that shows how polar bears and icebergs are negatively affected by climate change.  Considering that he is one of the most well-known actors of the world he has great influence to bring a change to the world. He wants to make people more aware of the fact that they have the leading role in making the world a better or worse place to live.

Leonardo DiCaprio even has its own foundation established in 1998 which collaborates with important names in bringing awareness of the environmental problems humanity faces. He established relationships with Oceana, the International Fund for Animal Welfare and even with the Dian Fossey Foundation, in order to show people that this is an issue they should pay more attention to. He was the US chair of the Earth Day in 2000 when he stated “We must set an example now and move environmentalism from being the philosophy of a passionate minority… to a way of life that automatically integrates ecology into governmental policy and normal living standards. We are entering an environmental age whether we like it or not.” Important personalities of the world were first angry that an actor is the one who tells such things, but he proved that he does more than simply keeping discourses, he gets involved and he makes the planet a better place little by little.

Angela Merkel

Everyone knows the German chancellor, but few may know that she is one of the best advocates when it comes to bringing an improvement to climate change. She has a clear image of what happens if humanity fails to protect the environment. What makes Merkel an important name on the environmental activists’ scene? The actions she takes in Germany in order for the country to run by using alternative options for oil and coal. She sets quite high targets for Germany when it comes to emission cuts and renewables.

Everyone knows that Merkel actually does the things she has in plan. People were simply shocked when she stated that by 2050 she will manage to raise the percentage of renewable energy for Germany. What did she manage, well, nowadays she reached to have 20% of the energy of the country from renewables, and it is a big number considering that Britain is somewhere around 5%. It is embarrassing for large states as America to see how Merkel manages to cut emissions without using nuclear power. The United Kingdom states that their goal is to cut emissions by 60% by 2050, but they want to use nuclear power.

What result did Markel get? She cut down emissions by 40% by using alternatives.

Joss Garman

Joss Garman is one of the youngest environmental activists, but he has a record for how many times he was arrested for getting involved into actions that had the role to make people aware of the problem they are experiencing without realising it. He is one of the founders of Plane Stupid, an organisation that managed to shut down the Jet’s London offices, and angered multiple airline companies and airports. He is considered one of the activists that will help the planet become a healthier place for people to live in. And where you count that he managed to pull together one of the climate change camps from Heathrow. This initiative should encourage people to learn more about how they can have a positive impact on the environment.

Elon Musk

People may know Musk’s name from PayPal, a system that offers people the possibility to pay their bills online, but not everyone knows that he is one of the investors of the board at Tesla Motors. Tesla Motors is one of the companies that produces electric cars, and their main goal is to bring a change to the US motor industry and cut the CO2 emissions. Their cars use a motor that boats few moving parts and lithium batteries similar to the ones used when manufacturing laptops. They have launched the Tesla Roadstar, a sports vehicle that reaches 70 mph in around five seconds and does 250 miles per charge. Leonardo DiCaprio and George Clooney are some of the names that prefer the cars manufactured by this company. Their main goal is to make cars perfect to be used by families, and the vehicles to be fuelled only by solar energy from panels they plan to install on the garage roof.
