California woman Stephanie Redondo arrested for attempting to push teen off a bridge
A woman in California was arrested Friday for attempted murder after she grabbed a high school cross-country runner and tried to push him off of a bridge in Ladera Ranch. Police identified the woman as Stephanie Redondo, a transient, who was taken into custody and held on a $500,000 bail.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Department detailed the incident in which Redondo, 23, assaulted two boys who were running on Crown Valley Parkway between O’Neill Drive and Jardines, as part of the Capistrano Valley High School cross-country team around 4 p.m. Friday afternoon.
Deputies responded, receiving calls about a person possibly attempting to jump off the bridge.
“During the assault, the suspect grabbed one of the victims and attempted to push him over the bridge safety railing,” a sheriff’s statement said. “The victim and additional cross country team members were able to fight off the suspect.”
“Thankfully the juvenile victims and witnesses reacted swiftly, and no one sustained serious physical injury from this incident,” the Sheriff’s Department said on Twitter. “This is an important reminder of how quickly a situation can escalate and that personal safety should always be top-of-mind.”
No one was seriously injured in the incident, authorities said.
Redondo’s arraignment was scheduled for Aug. 27.
