California woman found dead identified as Trisha Hopfe, investigation ongoing

The Marin County Sheriff’s Office has identified the woman who was found dead Thursday in the Point Reyes National Seashore as 31-year-old Trisha Hopfe.

Hopfe is an East Bay resident and her body was found by a hiker near Sir Francis Drake Boulevard in the area of Platform Bridge Road Thursday morning.

She apparently died within the last few days, said sheriff’s Lt. Jamie Scardina. She was identified through fingerprints.

The autopsy was performed Friday but no preliminary findings were released, and toxicology results are pending.

Scardina said Hopfe showed signs of physical injuries but he did not elaborate. He confirmed that Hopfe was not a gunshot victim.

Hopfe, whose prior residences had included Pleasanton, Hayward and San Ramon, had not been reported missing.

“We’re trying to retrace how she ended up out here,” Scardina said.

The sheriff’s department said it has no suspect or suspect description.

Hopfe’s survivors include her parents, two sisters, a brother and two children of her own, sources said. Her father Michael was a longtime police officer who retired in 2008.

Anyone with information that could help the investigation is asked to call the Marin County Sheriff’s Office at 473-7265.
