California: Mexican sex offender Gildardo Gonzalez-Santiago arrested by border patrol
El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents arrested a convicted sex offender on t Saturday evening.
At around 9:33 p.m., agents assigned to the area, approximately one mile east of the Calexico Port of Entry, observed a man running north from the international border fence. Agents approached the man and determined that he was illegally present in the United States. The man was arrested and transported to the El Centro station for processing.
Record checks revealed that the individual, Gildardo Gonzalez-Santiago, a 30-year-old Mexican national, is a convicted sex offender.
Gonzalez-Santiago had a misdemeanor rape conviction from 2008 in Orange County, New York. He was sentenced to time served, two months in jail and must register as a sex offender until 2028. Record checks also revealed that Gonzalez-Santiago was previously deported in October of 2018.
The man will be criminally prosecuted for Re-Entry after Removal as a convicted sex offender.
In fiscal year 2019, El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents have arrested and removed four convicted sex offenders attempting to enter the United States illegally.
