California abortion doctor Robert Santella who threatened pro-lifer with scissors will surrender license
A California abortionist who held scissors close to a pro-life activist’s throat while saying he loves tearing apart babies will surrender his medical license at the end of the year.
The California Medical Board took action against Santella for his “unprofessional” conduct in the 2016 video and wrongly prescribing controlled substances. The Board labelled his conduct “outrageous” and said he exhibited “physically threatening gestures.”
Santella said he prescribed opioids to a patient with a history of substance abuse because in “desperation I would refill her medications somehow just to get rid of her.”
The clip went viral, showing Santella saying he’d “keep tearing the babies apart,” and that he “I will … I love it. I love it!”
San Diego’s local NBC station covered the crackdown on Santella. He reportedly “botched” an abortion on a patient as well, putting her life at risk.
Santella told the NBC affiliate he “lost his composure that day” when he held scissors near the pro-life activist and “regrets his behavior.”
Pro-life watchdog group Operation Rescue has documented Santella’s history of substandard care over the years.
“We have long identified Santella as a danger to the public and are relieved after all these years that Santella will soon surrender his medical license,” said Tory Newman, president of Operation Rescue.
Santella lost his medical license for 60 days and was on probation for five years starting in 1983 for “gross negligence and incompetence in the treatment of three patients.”
He was put on probation for four years starting in 2000 for improper medical record keeping.
