Bryan Singer will return to direct ‘X-Men: Apocalypse,’ still set for 2016
In a surprise to no one, Fox officially closed a deal with Bryan Singer to direct X-Men: Apocalypse, the next installment of its popular Marvel mutants franchise.
Deadline confirms that Singer will be back to direct his fourth X-Men film, most recently (and most successfully) was this summer’s X-Men: Days Of Future Past.
Days “…meshed the original trilogy cast with the one from X-Men: First Class, grossed $746 million worldwide, the most of any of the films. Singer’s participation in the new film had been rumored, but his deal is now done,” says Deadline in a Sept. 22 article.
Writer Simon Kinberg script will be based on a story written by Singer, Kinberg, Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris. Singer and Lauren Shuler Donner are producing with Kinberg and Hutch Parker.
“The universe continues to expand with characters, and maybe this is the one where Channing Tatum comes aboard as Remy LeBeau, better known as Gambit, which has been widely rumored even by the Foxcatcher star himself,” Deadline added.
Fans were excited to hear that this film may feature a bald Professor X.
“I’ll be older in this one,” explains James McAvoy of his character. “I think I’m losing my hair finally. And, yeah, that’s kind of all I know.”
“I got an email from the [producer/writer Simon Kinberg] who informed me he was getting dead excited about stuff, but he didn’t want to divulge anything for a couple of weeks, so I really don’t know,” the British star added.
Hugh Jackman, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult for another X-Men flick. Evan Peters, Fan Bingbing also likely as well.
Production begins early next year, and the film will be released May 27, 2016.
