Bryan Singer on ‘X-Men Apocalypse’ trailer, details and longer run time

X-Men: Apocalypse may be the long-awaited culmination of two trilogies that began with 2000’s X-Men, so director Bryan Singer has confirmed a longer run time and some thoughts on a trailer while at the San Pedro International Film Festival.

“I think it’s gonna be a longer X-Men movie,” he said during a Q&A at the festival, watch what was caught on video.

“The X-Men movies, I usually I keep under two hours, but this one I may actually let be a longer movie because it’s sort of a wrap-up of six movies.”

In terms of the first trailer, Singer said, “There’s even an homage at the end [of the film]. There’s a scene — it’s gonna get spoiled because they decided to use it in the trailer which comes out in, like, six months, but it’s a really cool trailer – but it’s kind of a wrap up of six movies. So, it might run a little bit long, but it’s not boring.”

X-Men: Apocalypse adds Star Wars: The Force Awakens actor Oscar Isaac as the titular villain, an ancient mutant who awakens to a new world he hopes to conquer and shape to his will.

Michael Fassbender reprises his role of Magneto, and Singer teased an “emotional” scene from him that he hopes will make the cut.

“We’re at the end of the scene, and he asked me not to call cut and when the scene was over, he continued and did something that made me cry in the tent; I’ve never done that before…It’s a heartbreaking scene, not a typical comic book movie scene at all, so let’s hope it makes the cut. But after he did it, I went up to him, hugged him and said, ‘Thank you, Michael, for that gift. Now I need you to do it again.’ And he did it, and f—ing rocked it again…with full emotion.”

More film details below.

Olivia Munn (Psylocke) joins with Storm (Alexandra Shipp) and Archangel (Ben Hardy) to form the presumed Four Horseman with Magneto.
