Bryan Singer discusses cast for ‘X-Men Days of Future Past,’ Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Peter Dinklage, Sentinels

X-Men fans are excited by this summer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past as the original cast and the First Class cast will all come together for the film. During a Feb. 19 interview with Collider, Singer reveals how he began to get the cast back together.

So then we knew we had a movie. We hoped that Hugh would because he would be a wonderful conduit to the past and a character/actor that could play in the past and the future.”

Singer reflects on other projects and having such a dynamic cast before addressing the Sentinels and how to bring them to life in the wake of big budget robot films like Transformers or Pacific Rim.

“Well we tried to make the ones from 1973, the Sentinels of the past, a little fun and stylish but also a little retro, and the key is they’re not made of metal. That’s very important to our story because we’ve got a very powerful mutant. So that was a challenge to, to make them look like they could be made of polymer or some other material, plastic or something, but still have them be formidable when flying around and all that.”

Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage joins the cast as the villain Bolivar Trask and Singer explains the irony behind the role.

I like the idea of not a very big guy building very big robots, something ironically interesting about that. But he’s first an foremost, carries the screen, and there’s not a second that you take him for, he even talks about that in a little speech he gives in congress in the movie about when he was young he was underestimated, don’t underestimate small things.

The interview is very detailed, covering a wide range of topics, so check it out HERE
