Brie Larson explains why she took ‘Captain Marvel’ role
During a new interview with Vanity Fair, Brie Larson explains why she was hesitant to accept the titular role in Captain Marvel at first.
“It took me a really long time. I had to sit with myself, think about my life and what I want out of it. Ultimately, I couldn’t deny the fact that this movie is everything I care about, everything that’s progressive and important and meaningful, and a symbol I wished I would’ve had growing up. I really, really feel like it’s worth it if it can bring understanding and confidence to young women—I’ll do it.”
Larson also says that Marvel has been “very open to hearing my thoughts and my take on it,” which suggests she might have some input on how Danvers is brought to life.

Larson will play Carol Danvers in the Captain Marvel movie for quite a while at this stage, aside from a recent description of the character’s costume, fans still don’t really know a whole lot about Marvel’s first female-led big screen release.
Danvers’ outfit will be mostly faithful to the character’s look in Kelly Sue DeConnick’s 2012/13 comic run.
Captain Marvel arrives in theaters on March 8, 2019.
