Bowen’s Botches and Bodyslams: WWE RAW Results and Review May 7 2018

Monday Night RAW is live from the Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, NY. Tonight is the first show leading into the upcoming Money in the Bank Pay-Per-View.

Show Opener with RAW General Manager Kurt Angle

Kurt Angle comes out and starts the hype for the co-branded Money in the Bank Pay-Per-View and announces the first qualifying matches for the Money in the Bank Ladder Matches for both the men and women.

Ember Moon vs. Ruby Riott vs. Sasha Banks
Roman Reigns vs. Finn Balor vs. Sami Zayn

Braun Strowman and Kevin Owens come out in turn, wanting a spot in the MitB match. Kurt Angle says Braun will be in a qualifying match, and it will be against Kevin Owens, and it’s going to take place right now.

BodyslamKurt did well hyping the next Pay-Per-View, Braun commands attention every time he comes out, and Kevin Owens came off as natural as he always does.

Braun Strowman vs. Kevin Owens – Money in the Bank Qualifying Match

Braun strowman plows through Kevin Owens to secure his place in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match.

BodyslamBraun Strowman gave Kevin Owens four running shoulder tackles in the ringside area, a chokeslam, a running powerslam, and those hands for his birthday. Braun is so generous. This was a satisfying, hard hitting match that starts the show off right.

Roman Reigns locker room interview

BotchRoman cuts a decent promo saying tonight he is “pissed off”, but it focuses too much on saying things like “every night I silence the haters” which is hard to believe when just saying it makes an arena full of haters get really loud. Or when he says he is going to “take back” a title he has yet to hold.

Kurt Angle and Goldust backstage

Goldust wants a shot at the ladder match, Jinder Mahal interrupts and wants in also while questioning Roman’s place in tonight’s qualifier. Jinder hasn’t won a match since he came to RAW, and he’s in a match with Chad Gable tonight. If Jinder wins, maybe Kurt will consider it, maybe.

BodyslamCould go either way. The segment worked and furthers the stories of the night while still hyping the MitB match. Nothing special, but nothing bad. Unless you’re one of the many who is creeped out by Goldust.

No Way Jose and Titus Worldwide vs Baron Corbin and The Revival

Baron Corbin and The Revival defeat No Way Jose and Titus Worldwide

Bodyslam Baron Corbin and The Revival get the win they all need to establish themselves as threats to the RAW locker room. Apollo Crews is still making the most of his time in the ring, looking impressive once again. He needs to ditch Titus and get a singles push.

Money in the Bank Triple Threat Qualifying Match – Sasha Banks vs. Ember Moon vs. Ruby Riott

Ember Moon Eclipses Ruby Riott and Sasha Banks to qualify for the Money in the Bank match

BodyslamThe Women’s Division again delivers a fantastic match. Four of the six women involved in this match were in NXT or the indies this time last year. That’s a testament to the rise of the female talent in the industry. Bayley came out to save Sasha from the Riott Squad outside the ring. With Ember Moon moving on to the MitB match, Sasha, Bayley, and the Riott Squad are free to further this story.

Bobby Lashley Historical video and Interview with Renee Young

Botch This was long and boring. Maybe it was just where it was placed in the show, maybe it was the pace of the segment itself. It sets up Lashley as the wholesome babyface, but it was an effort for me to keep my attention on it.

Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens in the locker room

BodyslamSami apologized for last night at Backlash and talked Kevin into watching his back tonight, but the rift between them is growing.

Jinder Mahal vs. Chad Gable

Jinder Mahal locks in the Khallas and victory over Chad Gable.

BodyslamChad Gable looked great during the match, and the post-match beatdown Mahal delivered to Gable keeps his heat smoldering.

Zack Ryder and Kurt Angle backstage

Zack wants in the MitB match too. Jinder interrupts demanding a spot in the MitB match after defeating Gable. Kurt Angle denies his request. Jinder leaves and Kurt and Zack laugh.

BodyslamThe crowd popped for their hometown boy, Zack Ryder. Good to see them fit him in, even though Goldust has done more lately to earn a spot in the MitB match.

Heath Slater and Rhyno vs Drew McIntyre and Dolph Ziggler

Drew McIntyre hits the Claymore on Heath Slater for the win

BodyslamWhen Drew entered the ring to face Heath, the crowd erupted into a chant of “3MB” hearkening back to their days together. McIntyre is always impressive, and he and Dolph make a good team.

Bobby Roode vs. Elias

Bobby Roode lands a Glorious DDT and pins Elias

Bodyslam These two have good chemistry in the ring and put on a great match. Post match, Roode cut a solid promo declaring his worthiness for the MitB match after beating Elias. I wouldn’t be suirprised to see both men make it in by the time we get to the PPV. These are two of the best performers on the RAW roster.

Intercontinental Champion Seth Rollins issues open challenge – Mojo Rawley accepts

Seth Rollins Curbstomps Rawley for the pin

BodyslamMojo Rawley makes his RAW debut in a powerful fashion. Rollins kept the title, but Rawley looked like a force to be reckoned with. Their contrasting styles worked well and made for a good match.

RAW Tag Team Champions The Deleter of Worlds Matt Hardy and Bray Wyatt vs. Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel

The Deleter of Worlds squash Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel

Botch This was a squash match that probably should have taken place an hour earlier on the card. The promo with Dallas and Axel declaring themselves leading men before the match worked well to move them on from the Miztourage. The momentum of the show was building, and going on to the MitB qualifying match from the Intercontinental Championship match seemed natural. This squash match felt like it was stuffed into this spot under duress.

Money in the Bank Qualifying Match – Finn Balor vs. Sami Sayn vs. Roman Reigns

Finn Balor delivers the Coup de Grace on Sami Zayn and scores the pinfall.

BodyslamThe fight raged all over the arena, with Balor and Zayn able to leave Roman in the production area, giving them a chance to shine in the ring together. Jinder Mahal’s interference against Roman looks like a lead into a program betwen them. Balor winning his spot in the MitB marquee match already makes it a must-see event.
