Bowen’s Botches and Bodyslams: WWE RAW Results and Review June 25 2018

Tonight’s Monday Night RAW comes from Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, California and features Seth Rollins’ rematch with Dolph Ziggler for the Intercontinental Championship.

 

Show Opener with Kurt Angle and Baron Corbin In Ring

Botch – This segment was good for Baron Corbin. Not so great for anyone else. Roman Reign’s character development is spinning its wheels and Bobby Lashley still isn’t that good on the mic. Part of it is the same problem Brock Lesnar has; his voice just isn’t intimidating enough to match his appearance. Lashley, just like Lesnar, needs a mouthpiece. Play to his strengths and hide his weaknesses. This put his weakness on full display at the beginning of the show. Having the one-dimensional Roman Reigns as his foil makes this difficult to work in the first place. Kurt has little control over the show at this point.

 

Roman Reigns and Bobby Lashley vs. The Revival (Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson)

Botch – Too much. That’s what I kept thinking throughout the match. All four men were trying too hard, and maybe they felt a lot of pressure to open the show with a spectacular match picking up where they left off last week. It felt overdone throughout, and the confrontation at the end wasn’t any better for Lashley than the opening segment.

 

The Deleters of Worlds (Matt Hardy and Bray Wyatt) vs. The B Team

Curtis Axel reverses Matt Hardy’s Suplerfplex into a Crossbody and pins Hardy.

Bodyslam – The pre-match promos were great and the ending of the match was unexpected. Another great segment with these four. Hardy and Wyatt are going to need something more to sink their teeth into with these characters soon, but The B Team is managing to keep this boat afloat.

 

Authors of Pain Backstage

Bodyslam – AoP are showing their mean side and Titus Worldwide aren’t afraid to stand up to them. It looks like we know who is going to be the first program for the Authors of Pain.

 

Bayley and Alicia Fox Backstage

Bodyslam – Bayley has to team with Sasha Banks again, stretching out the impending feud further.

 

Authors of Pain (Akam and Rezar) vs. Rich and Rex Gibson

Akam pins a Gibson after The Last Chapter. Titus Worldwide run out to stop the post-match beatdown on the Gibsons from the Authors of Pain.

Bodyslam – AoP gets to do a squash match that leads into a feud with Titus Worldwide. The RAW Tag Team Division just got far more interesting.

 

Kurt Angle and Baron Corbin Backstage

Bodyslam – Kurt is now acknowledging he has lost control of the show. Finn Balor is getting all the best lines. Braun does what he wants. Kurt does what Braun says. Smart move.

 

Alexa Bliss and Mickie James In Ring

Botch – This was dragging on too long and Alexa Bliss was not at her best on the mic tonight, although she still had her bright spots. Natalya still rides Rinda Rousey’s coattails. This wasn’t working.

Natalya forces Alexa Bliss to Tap Out to the Sharpshooter.

Botch – The match was only barely better than the preceding promo. Everything seems off tonight, and it is permeating the entire show. This entire segment was conceived well and should have worked, but between going too long and things being just a little off here and there, it all adds up to something that should have worked well but didn’t.

 

Seth Rollins Backstage

Bodyslam – Seth cuts a decent promo, and he wants the Intercontinental Championship back as much as the fans want it back on him.

 

Jinder Mahal and Sunil Singh Backstage

Bodyslam – The Riott Squad is still wreaking havoc backstage this week, and Jinder Mahal and Sunil Singh get to experience their destructive behavior. Jinder and Sunil take the high road with them and the ladies leave puzzled but ready to carry on with their hijinks.

 

Ember Moon, Shasha Banks, and Bayley vs. The Riott Squad (Ruby Riott, Sarah Logan, Liv Morgan)

Ruby Riott Rolls Up Sasha Banks for the Pinfall Victory. Bayley attacks Sasha Banks after the match.

Bodyslam – The match was good, but the ending. YES. This is what we’ve been waiting for. Sasha Banks vs. Bayley. Bayley started laying a brutal beatdown on Sasha immediately, and showed a part of her we have yet to experience. Sasha brings that out of her, and the long, slow burn on this will make the payoff that much more satisfying.

 

Kurt Angle Backstage

Bodyslam – Kurt and Kevin nail every segment they do together, and this is no exception. And luckily for Kurt he is getting as much satisfaction out of giving Braun what he wants as everyone else.

 

No Way Jose vs. Mojo Rawley

Rawley refuses to give No Way Jose a rematch and walks out after sucker punching Jose ringside.

Bodyslam – This version of Mojo Rawley could work. No Way Jose is still being used as the RAW roster’s clown. That is not a precursor to a long career in the WWE. Jose should look for a better way forward.

 

Kurt Angle Backstage

Bodyslam – Kurt is putting Bayley in counseling. Hopefully that segment next week isn’t going to be as bad as it sounds. Kurt had a lot of passion here though, and it came off well.

 

Braun Strowman and Kevin Owens vs. Finn Balor and Baron Corbin

Owens and Strowman Win by Countout as Balor and Corbin battle each other up the ramp.

Bodyslam – The dynamic between Strowman and Owens was perfect. Balor and Corbin did great as well. We all laughed out loud when Kevin did his lap and hit Balor but got the clothesline from Corbin. The segment after the match with Strowman still making Kevin miserable and afraid was a satisfying ending. And tack another vehicle on to Braun Strowman’s property damage bill.

 

Dolph Ziggler (c) with Drew McIntyre vs. Seth Rollins – Intercontinental Championship Match

Seth Rollins Wins by Disqualification after Drew McIntyre pulls the official out of the ring while counting a Rollins pin on Ziggler. Roman Reigns runs out to save Rollins in the post-match beating delivered by Ziggler and McIntyre.

Bodyslam – These two put on an incredible match. Dolph looked great, Seth looked great, the ending was perfect, the crowd popped for Roman the only time they consistently will. And the heel champion keeps the belt. This could get very interesting moving forward with these four.
