Bowen’s Botches and Bodyslams: WWE RAW Results and Review July 9 2018

WWE Monday Night RAW comes from TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts this week. The card features a tag team match with Constable Baron Corbin and Elias facing off against Finn Balor and Bobby Roode. Will Kevin Owens be able to steer clear of Braun Strowman this week? Did Bayley and Sasha Banks’ therapy session work last week? The final episode of RAW before Extreme Rules may provide more questions than answers.

Show Opener with Roman Reigns In Ring

BodyslamThe best part about this segment is that Roman kept it simple on the mic and we got right into some action. Even though we saw this exact confrontation not long ago, with Brock Lesnar playing the role Bobby Lashley was in tonight, this was still exciting to watch. Roman taking flight was nice to see, and the brawl was hard-hitting and chaotic. It was definitely better than Lesnar’s angle in UFC this past weekend. It’s a shame the Universal Championship is out of action from a power trip injury and these two can’t fight for it.

Mickie James and Alexa Bliss vs. Nia Jax and Natalya

Nia Jax Pins Mickie James after a Press Slam and Leg Drop. Alexa Bliss attacks Jax and Natalya with a Kendo Stick after the match.

BodyslamThe match was pretty good, Nia was smooth in the delivery of her high impact offense, and Alexa was deliciously dangerous in her assault with the Kendo Stick. Alexa was brutal with the Kendo Stick last year at Extreme Rules against Bayley, and it looks like we may get to see that again this year. Then again, the tables may get turned on her this time around.

Nia Jax Backstage Interview with Charly Caruso

BodyslamNia cuts one of her better promos. She seems to do better with them after a match than before a match.

Kurt Angle and Kevin Owens In Angle’s Office

BodyslamKevin has a doctor’s note and is hiding in Angle’s office all night. That means we get Angle and Owens together in every segment either are in tonight. That’s good news.

Mojo Rawley vs. No Way Jose

Mojo Rawley Pins No Way Jose after an Alabama Slam.

BodyslamRawley is really looking good as a powerhouse heel, and these two delivered a solid classic style match. Michael Cole implies Rawley is moving on from Jose now. But it doesn’t look like either have anywhere to go story wise, so this may not be over yet.

Bayley and Sasha Bank Friendship Counseling

BotchI’m not keen on seeing another round of therapy between these two this week. This piece was one-sided for Bayley, so we’re probably going to get at least one more of these tonight that gives Sasha some time. Hopefully a match for Extreme Rules is finalized tonight. Otherwise this will continue on until SummerSlam at least. That is the more likely scenario.

Seth Rollins Backstage with Jinder Mahal

BotchWhat is this new direction for Jinder? I’m not sure if we’re supposed to love him or hate him anymore. It was much easier when Jinder forced us to boo him.

Seth Rollins In Ring

BodyslamThe exchange between Seth and Dolph was starting to drag on but it picked up just in time. Seth got the best lines again and Drew really sold those sick burns. Announcing a match between Rollins and McIntyre tonight was a nice conclusion that gives us all what we’ve been waiting for.

The B Team in the Locker Room

BodyslamThe B Team impressions of Matt and Bray are uncanny. They are having a lot of fun with this, and it shows. I’m having fun watching them.

Matt Hardy with Bray Wyatt vs. Bo Dallas with Curtis Axel

Bo Dallas Pins Matt Hardy. Bray Wyatt and Matt Hardy attack Dallas and Axel in unison after the match.

BodyslamBo Dallas is much better than he seems to get credit for, and it’s good to see him getting a push into the tag team championship picture with Axel. The match had a few awkward moments, but these two were good enough to get around it. Hopefully these guys get some serious time for their match at Extreme Rules.

Bobby Lashley Backstage Interview with Renee Young

BodyslamThis was Bobby’s best promo since he returned to WWE. He is also in the best position since his return and has something to respond to that makes sense.

Tyler Breeze Backstage with Liv Morgan and Sarah Logan

BodyslamBreeze is on his own for now with Fandango injured. He’s lucky the Riott Squad didn’t beat him up. The interaction was funny to everyone watching in my house. It probably made no sense to someone watching for the first time.

Ember Moon vs. Liv Morgan

Ember Moon Rolls Up Liv Morgan for the Pinfall Victory.

BodyslamThis was the best match of the night thus far. Morgan is still getting better every week, as is Ember Moon. For Moon that means she is quickly looking like the greatest asset in the RAW Women’s Division. Rousey may have the bigger name, but Moon is putting in work every week and proving why she is a superstar.

Finn Balor and Bobby Roode Backstage Interview with Renee Young

BodyslamRoode is gold on the mic and Balor always gets great lines.

Kurt Angle and Kevin Owens in Angle’s Office

BodyslamAngle is still throwing jabs at Owens about the port-a-potty incident last week. I hope her never stops doing that. Kevin is still accusing Angle of favoritism. I’m sure he will never stop doing that.

Elias and Constable Baron Corbin vs. Finn Balor and Bobby Roode

Constable Baron Corbin Pins Bobby Roode after hitting the End of Days.

BodyslamThis was an awesome match, and the crowd was captivated the entire time. A lot of excitment and a finish that seemingly came out of nowhere. There’s unfinished business all around here, and I look forward to seeing what could potentially manifest from the matchups that come out of it.

Kurt Angle and Kevin Owens Backstage with Braun Strowman

BodyslamThese bits with Angle and Owens keep getting better, and bringing Braun in to taunt Kevin topped it all off well. Plus we find out Kevin and Braun will face off in a Steel Cage at Extreme Rules.

Roman Reigns Backstage Interview with Renee Young

BotchI thought Roman had picked up some momentum with his promos and would be much better here. His calm didn’t match his swagger, and the wink to Renee at the end was strange and out of place. It’s hard to come off as intense and dangerous when you’re smiley and flirty.

Seth Rollins vs. Drew McIntyre

If Drew McIntyre Loses He is Banned from Ringside at Extreme Rules.

Drew McIntyre Pins Seth Rollins after the Claymore.

BodyslamDrew McIntyre was in his first singles main event since his return to the main roster of WWE. It was worth the wait. Watching this match makes you understand why Vince McMahon picked him as the future of WWE years ago, and why that is still valid today. McIntyre is capable of amazing things, and being in the ring with someone just as capable such as Seth Rollins gave us something truly special. This was the best main event on RAW in a long time, and I can’t wait to see more of these two. Too bad we don’t get to see this match continue at Extreme Rules, though with his victory we can count on McIntyre being involved with Rollins and Ziggler on Sunday.
