Bowen’s Botches and Bodyslams: WWE RAW Results and Review August 20 2018

WWE Monday Night RAW comes from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, hot off the heels of SummerSlam. With a new Universal Champion and a new Women’s Champion, we are sure to hear from them on RAW. WWE has also announced an appearance by  Triple H.

Universal Championship
Roman Reigns (c) vs. Finn Balor

Roman Reigns wins by Pinfall after the Spear. Braun Strowman comes out to cash in his Money in the Bank contract. Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose come out to The SHIELD entrance theme and attack Braun Strowman.

Botches –

  • Bobby Lashley vs. Baron Corbin was a deflating first match. And the crowd showed their disapproval.
  • Sasha, Bayley, and Ember vs. Riott Squad needs to move forward or move on. There has to be stakes or closure, because this is getting old. Their matches are good, but why are they still doing this?
  • The Triple H and Stephanie McMahon segments were to promote two different upcoming PPV events. Too much of the show is being taken up with segments that are just commercials for other shows.

Bodyslams –

  • Finn Balor gets his opportunity for the Universal Championship he never lost.
  • Titus Worldwide is fractured, and Apollo Crews may finally go his own way.
  • Braun Strowman kept his promise to go after the Universal Championship.
  • The SHIELD has returned, and that’s where Roman Reigns is most popular with the fans.

The show had an erratic feeling, with a pace that never seemed to keep any momentum until the final match. Starting out by announcing Finn Balor gets his chance at the Universal Championship against Roman Reigns and then deflating the crowd’s enthusiasm with a Bobby Lashley vs. Baron Corbin match was a precursor to what would come. With the Triple H promo, the Stephanie McMahon presentation, and Elias on guitar there was too much drag on the broadcast. But the fans got to see Ronda Rousey attack Stephanie McMahon, Finn Balor chase the championship, and the SHIELD reunion. Overall, a satisfying post SummerSlam RAW.
