Universal announced on Wednesday that the Bourne Legacy sequel will indeed be pushed back to July 15, 2016. Jeremy Renner will return as Aaron Cross for the second time in the upcoming film, with Justin Lin(Fast Five, Fast & Furious 6) directing the action movie.

Lin also will produce Bourne 5 alongside Frank Marshall, Ben Smith, and Jeffrey Weiner.

Latino Review says today, June 20, that” according to a deeply embedded trusted source, the reason Bourne 5 got pushed to July 15, 2016 is because Matt Damon is in fact back to play his signature role as Jason Bourne for director Justin Lin!”

Hollywood Reporter reported Thursday that the Bourne 5 move was “According to insiders, the move was made so that the August 2014 date could be used for Straight Outta Compton, the upcoming film about the rise and fall of gangsta rap pioneers N.W.A.”

Latino says the THR report is a misdirection doesn’t make sense. They claim you can “bet the house” on the Damon casting who has been repeatedly stating that he won’t come back without original director Paul Greengrass. Here is one of those quotes:

“Paul Greengrass has to want to do it, and secondly and equally important, it comes down to Paul and I knowing what the hell we want to do. We just don’t have a story, and we haven’t had one.”

“It’s simply not true,” Marshall tells THR, adding that the film will star Renner in a follow up to The Bourne Legacy. “[Director] Justin Lin is working with Andrew Baldwin on an Aaron Cross script/story that they pitched us a few months ago. I talk to Justin all the time and the script is not ready. It’s a summer movie, and if we don’t start pre-production now, we can’t make next summer. Therefore, it’s a wise decision to move to 2016.”

Legacy star Renner, Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Scott Glenn, Oscar Isaac, Joan Allen and Albert Finney. Legacy had the lowest US Box Office showing in the franchise but managed to earn over $276 million worldwide.

Renner is currently filming Avengers: Age of Ultron, returning as Hawkeye and was presumed to be set to film Bourne afterwards. With the delay Renner may be taking up one of the other films he’s attached to.

Bourne 5 is now set for July 15, 2016.
