Book review: Jo King Jackson’s ‘Stones in the River’ is the perfect Coffee Table Book for Christian businesses

Author and speaker Jo King Jackson’s latest effort to help the spiritual journey of others let her to pen “Stones in the River,” a beautiful and masterful coffee table book, weighing around 5 pounds!

Addressing issues of loneliness and isolation, “Stones” is over 350 pages of devotional and inspirational text, set around lovely photos. The Christian message of God’s power over issues such as grief, loss, the empty nest and your purpose is intertwined with Jackson’s testimony and words of encouragement.

“What stones will be the spiritual markers found in your river of life?” Jackson asks early, in the first couple of dozen pages of “Stones.”

There are “Stones” for marriage, friendship, surrender, motherhood, your calling and God’s grace. Jackson is open about her journey, trying to let readers know they are NOT alone in their journey: “God had me surrender all, then he moved me” is the heading before she writes:

“I knew I was adjusting my life to God and His plan for my life and my future. The Lord was the only one who could have had me leave my home and treasured life in Newport Beach for an unknown land,” she confesses, discussing her move to San Joaquin Valley and her reliance on a provisional God.

I noted “Stones in the River” to be a coffee table book, but it doesn’t need to be if you’re a fan of photography or just need a unique devotional and conversation piece. Who wouldn’t want to have a peak at this beautiful, thick, deluxe book with inviting pics on the cover and inside.

That said, Christian business owners struggle to fill their lobbies with appropriate material as secular magazines put half-dressed models on nearly every cover and suggest the best ways to improve their sex lives. Now “Stones in the River” gives them an option to present Christian material, a great message and an incredible book for their patrons.
