Boko Haram: There is no ceasefire and the schoolgirls have been married into Islam

Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau has denied that the terrorist organization agreed to a ceasefire with the Nigerian government.

Shekau was featured in a new video saying, “We have not made ceasefire with anyone. We did not negotiate with anyone. It’s a lie. We will not negotiate. What is our business with negotiation? Allah said we should not,” Shekau continued.

The Boko Haram leader also claimed that the girls kidnapped from a Chibok school on April 14 had already been converted to Islam and married off.
This message is a sharp contrast with earlier reports quoting Nigerian government officials that a ceasefire had been established and negotiations for the girls’ return were underway.
“They’ve assured us they have the girls and they will release them,” Nigerian presidential aid Hassan Tukur said at the time.  “I am cautiously optimistic.”
Reporting on Boko Haram is mixed with unreliable accounts. Shekau was reportedly killed in a firefight last month, but released a scathing video just days after the news. More on that bit of misinformation HERE
According to Human Right Watch, the militant group currently holds over 500 women and girls captive. Violence across northern Nigeria is getting worse as the group goes unchecked by Nigeria’s military.
Boko Haram, which translates to “western education is a sin” is a similar Islamic terrorist group to ISIS in the Middle East, striving to conquer territory in an effort to establish the Islamic State (also called a caliphate.)
