Body found near Orlando Walmart identified as Flavio Medina
The body found Friday morning in the Four Corners area near Orlando, Fla. has been identified as Flavio Medina, 20, a Lake County Sheriff’s Office official reported. Medina had been reported missing a day earlier.
Deputies responded to a wooded area near the Walmart off U.S. Highway 27, according to sheriff’s Sgt. Fred Jones. Detectives are investigating this as a homicide, Jones said.
The cause of death was a gunshot wound, but the Sheriff’s Office has not released how many shots were sustained or in what part of the body.
Medina was reported missing from Davenport to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office Thursday.
“It’s a very tragic and unfortunate situation,” said Lt. John Herrell, of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
“He actually resides in Davenport, so we aren’t sure exactly how he ended up in our county,” Herrell said.
“He was such a good guy. He had no reason to die at all,” Medina’s pregnant girlfriend, Marisa Amado, said to WESH on Monday. “Nobody knows what happened. We don’t know where he went, who he was with, nothing like that. That’s what we’re waiting to find out.”
“Right now they’re talking to his family and friends and acquaintances. (We’re) trying to figure out who he may have been with,” Herrell said.
No further information was released as the investigation is ongoing and difficult since the crime was in a remote area.
“So that’s why they’re going to place a great deal of emphasis on really going over the crime scene carefully, being very careful not to overlook any evidence that will be present because each piece of the puzzle is going to be very important,” Herrell said.
