Bob Dole criticizes ‘true conservatives’

Former Kansas Senator Bob Dole came out of hiding this past weekend to make an appearance on Fox News Sunday. The man who led or was a member of the US Senate for decades had a few choice words for “today’s” Republicans.

When asked about the current Republican Party, reading in between the lines, the Tea Party/conservative  wing of the party, Dole said, “I think they ought to put a sign on the national committee doors that says closed for repairs until New Year’s Day next year and spend that time going over ideas and positive agendas.”

When asked whether he or Ronald Reagan could make it in today’s Republican Party, Dole responded, I doubt it. And I — Reagan wouldn’t have made it. Certainly Nixon couldn’t have made it, because he had ideas and, we might have made it, but I doubt it. I mean —

A couple of observations–RINOS (Republicans in name only) still are the major force in the legislative body Mr. Dole oversaw: McCain, Graham, Hatch etc., the short list. So yes, Dole (the man who expanded the food stamp program), Reagan or Nixon could still make it in 2013.

Second observation: “Nixon couldn’t have made it, because he had ideas?”

Wage and price controls, starting the War on Drugs, establishing the EPA, OSHA and other alphabet soup and taking us off the gold standard, to name a few.

Ideas.

NO OFFENSE TO Senator Bob Dole (R-KS), BUT, IN 1996 I DID NOT VOTE BECAUSE I THOUGHT HE WAS TOO OLD. I FIND IT STRIKING Senator Dole CONSIDERS Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) TO BE A “RINO.” RECENTLY, Senator Graham COLLABORATED WITH Senator John McCain (R-AZ) IN OPPOSITION TO SAME-SEX MARRIAGE. Senator Graham IS A SOCIAL CONSERVATIVE WHOSE POLITICAL LOT IS FOREVER CAST IN THE U.S. Senate. BUT, HE REALIZES Senator McCain HAS “STAR POWER;” IF THIS ASSOCIATION MAKES Senator Graham A “RINO,” Senator Dole NEEDS TO JOIN THE TALKING HEADS ON SUNDAY MORNING – ANY MEDIA OUTLET WILL DO.
