Bizarre gun misfire leaves Pennsylvania 7-year-old boy dead
A 7-year-old boy was fatally shot in Mercer County Saturday as the boy’s father was leaving a gun store an his .9mm Taurus accidentally went off.
According to police, the boy was in a booster seat in a pickup outside Twigs Reloading Den on Sharon-Mercer Road around 11 a.m. when his father’s handgun went off. The boy was struck in the upper right chest.
Authorities elaborated with The Dispatch, detailing that the Twigs Reloading Den is an outdoor supply shop and the father, Joseph V. Loughrey, age 44, had gone into the shop to sell a pair of guns (a scope rifle and the handgun), but the shop owner wasn’t interested. The man put the boy into his booster seat and as he put the handgun in the center console it fired.
State police said Loughrey told them he had emptied the magazine of the gun, but had no idea a bullet was still in the chamber.
“This happens all too often where people think the gun was empty,” said state police Lt. Eric Hermick.
When police arrived, the boy was on the ground after CPR attempts failed.
The coroner’s office and state police are investigating.

“misfire” “accidentally” ou people say this as if this was a mechanical failure of the gun. Carelessness, negligence…take your pick of many. Forget the common lame excuse “I didn’t know it was loaded”. Why would you ever EVER have your finger on the trigger when you are not preparing to fire your gun??? …ESPECIALLY around your child!!!!
Some people were not meant to breed.
