Billy Crudup discusses ‘Alien Covenant’ being fan of ‘Alien’, talks ‘Justice League’ role

As Ridley Scott prepares to bring another Alien chapter to the big screen, one of the new film’s stars speaks out about the franchise, the new pic, Alien: Covenant, as well as his role in other big franchises, such as the DC Cinematic Universe, beginning with Justice League.

“When I saw the original ‘Alien’ I didn’t know that expert acting and writing could go hand in hand with horror and sci-fi,” Billy Crudup said in a new interview with the Orlando Sentinel.

“You could be ambitious in the way you were about a relationship drama like ‘Kramer vs. Kramer,’ where it’s played with realism and weight and authenticity. You could do that with aliens as well. To me, that was a revelation.”

“This is a guy whose career has transcended decades,” Crudup said of Scott. “My personal belief is if you make one great movie, you are what we call an excellent director. … If you make two, you’re like world-class. If you make three, you’re a legend. That’s all it really takes — three great movies. He’s made 10.”

Crudup also joined the DCCU as the father of Barry Allen, aka The Flash, played by Ezra Miller.

“I wasn’t even sure if I was going to be in that one,” Crudup said. “Zack Snyder directed ‘Watchmen,’ and that was one of my favorite experiences to work on because of Zack’s personality. He’s just got an an infectious, sort of teenage creativity that you feel buoyed by being around. So if he asks me to do anything at any time, I’m in.”

Crudup cited another crucial reason to do the film: “I have a 13-year-old son. He was like, ‘Finally, you’re in a movie I can see, Dad.’”

Crudup stars with Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Danny McBride, Demián Bichir, Carmen Ejogo, Amy Seimetz, Jussie Smollett, Callie Hernandez, Nathaniel Dean, Alexander England and Benjamin Rigby. Noomi Rapace is believed to have a small role, likely a cameo involving her death, as well as an appearance by James Franco.

Alien: Covenant will arrive in theaters on May 19, 2017.

The Justice League is Superman (Henry Cavill), Batman (Ben Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Cyborg (Ray Fisher), The Flash (Ezra Miller), and Aquaman (Jason Momoa).

Jesse Eisenberg will reprise his role of Lex Luthor with Ciaran Hinds as the featured DC Comics bad guy: Steppenwolf.

Jeremy Irons as Alfred, Diane Lane as Mrs. Kent will be part of the cast with (presumably) Amy Adams and Laurence Fishburne. Newcomers are J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon, Amber Heard as Mera and Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko.

Justice League opens in theaters on November 17, 2017.
