‘Big Bang Theory’ season 7: Howard’s ‘Song for Bernadette’ done in one take, written by Lucy
Fans of CBS’ The Big Bang Theory unknowingly got a glimpse of Kate Micucci‘s other talent when the recurring guest star wrote Howard’s heartfelt song for Bernadette.
Micucci, known as Raj’s love interest Lucy, says she spent about a week writing the heartfelt song during an interview with THR, writing the song with writing partner Riki Lindhome.
The song “If I Didn’t Have You (Bernadette’s Song)” for the comedy is already a hit and features references to Joss Whedon, Doctor Who, Steve Jobs and a verse in Klingon.
“About a month and a half ago [showrunner] Steve Molaro called us. It seemed our music/comedic sensibility lined up with the show. Also, both Riki and I are huge fans of the show and have both been on it, so we were excited to write a song that was funny but also had a lot of heart.”
Of course fans want to know what instructions did the creators give the actress born in Jersey.
“The must-have was the line, “And he’d probably still live with his mom.” And for us, rhyming “hopes” with “inseparable isotopes” was pretty thrilling.”
She says she was amazed they only changed one line, for “scientific accuracy” and credits Simon Helberg for the performance.
“On the day of the live taping there was only one take. Simon nailed it.”
