‘Big Bang Theory’ Mayim Bialik visits Sarasota Florida school promoting STEM, confesses she’s ‘only bona fide geek’ on show
Big Bang Theory star Mayim Bialik visited a Florida school to promote STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) education and during a brief interview with Bay News 9 revealed her status as a nerd on the popular sitcom.
Bialik is a spokesperson and brand ambassador for Texas Instruments and she is an advocate for STEM and loved visiting a Sarasota Florida middle school to witness demonstrations of the TechActive classrooms.
School may be out but some students and teachers were eager to volunteer to take part in lessons and demos of the TechActive classrooms.
“Obviously it’s fun to have Amy Farrah Fowler in your classroom,” Bialik said, referencing her nerdy counterpart from the show.
“I went to public school my whole life. I went to public university. I got my Ph.D. at a public university. So, I think honestly I’m happy to put sort of a public face on STEM and a female face on STEM,” Bialik told Bay News 9 before discussing her affinity for Lord of the Rings and other science fiction favorites.
“I’m a pretty big Lord of the Rings fan. I’m a comic book person. I’m a Star Wars over Star Trek. I don’t have any problem with Star Trek…I think I’m the only bona fide geek on the cast.”
