Benicio del Toro to star as lead in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ and will likely appear in other Marvel films
Benicio Del Toro has joined the all-star cast of the James Gunn directed Marvel Studios film Guardians Of The Galaxy.
Deadline reports that the details are being kept under wrap, “but he’s playing a character that is built to be part of future Marvel films, which means he has signed a deal with options that put him into multiple movies.”
Similar to Samuel L. Jackson and Mark Ruffalo, del Toro may have signed on for several films, which is what most fans would love to see – continuity.
The Avengers Blu-ray collection featured some concept art which gives fans some insight into the Phase 2 concluding film — the lead-in to Avengers 2.
Del Toro most recently joined the cast of Paul Thomas Anderson’s Inherent Vice. He’ll next be seen in Jimmy P, the film that made its world premiere in competition at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival.
Del Toro joins Glenn Close, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, and John C. Reilly (rumored).
Ophelia Lovibond (No Strings Attached) has signed on to play a mysterious character that’s rumored to be an aide to the villainous The Controller.
Guardians of the Galaxy will be released on August 1, 2014.
According to a “very reliable source” who spoke with Comic Book Movie, Del Toro will be playing the part of Taneleer Tivan a.k.a. The Collector. The character has been rumored to be making an appearance for some time; initial reports of Ophelia Lovibond‘s casting indicated that she’d play his aide.
