Critics and Hillary Clinton are rallying to defend Planned Parenthood, but GOP candidates like Ben Carson are doubling down on their pro-life stance, claiming that performing abortions to save a woman’s life is “largely a spurious argument” these days and such cases should be made on an individual basis.

“We have advanced so much in medicine these days that that situation rarely occurs,” the retired pediatric neurosurgeon told the “CBS This Morning” program.

Carson said he is against abortion.

“I spent my entire career as a pediatric neurosurgeon, frequently staying up all night, fighting, struggling to save the lives of little babies, even operating on babies inside the womb,” Carson said. “So I don’t think it should be hard for anybody to understand that I am totally opposed to killing babies.”
