Ben Affleck details Batman, ‘he’s a haunted and broken guy’ dealing with the death of Robin
Warner Bros is finally getting the DC Comics cinematic universe and star Ben Affleck recently sat down with the LA Times and explained that Batman’s first scene in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice will play out like a horror movie.
“It’s like out of Se7en or Aliens or something, which is a really different vibe. My son still watches the Adam West Batman [TV series]. It’s a far cry from where it started.
With Dawn of Justice, we find an older, battle-worn Batman with Robin being murdered by the Joker.
“He’s bitterly disappointed in the past that he’s lost this guy who fought by his side,” Affleck told Entertainment Weekly, referring to Robin’s death. “That character’s death must have been devastating to him, and he’s suffered. We get the sense that he’s suffered a lot of devastating losses before this movie even starts.”
This Batman is very different from Christian Bale’s Batman in Christopher Nolan’s trilogy.
“What I wanted was to create a Batman that was sort of at the end of his rope physically and psychologically and emotionally, a guy who was beaten down by the world, a guy who was a little bit more of a slugger, who has more gray in his hair, and who was questioning whether the whole journey that he lived as Batman was in fact even worth it, given that he was not superhero, but now had to face a super-being, which none of the other Batmans had to confront in the movie world,” Affleck continued.
“…He’s functioning, but not in a healthy way. He’s a haunted and broken guy,” he told the LA Times.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters on March 25.
