‘Bates Motel’ season 2: Norman becomes aware of his ‘darkness,’ first look Michael Vartan

The Psycho prequel returns for its second season this Spring and Freddie Highmore’s Norman Bates continues to evolve and become more aware of the monster that he is becoming.

BatesMotelSeason2MichaelVartanVeraFarmiga”The sort of thematic of the second season is, ‘Who am I?’ For Norma, ‘Am I entitled to the life I’ve always dreamed of having?’ For Norman it’s, ‘Who am I?’ as he becomes more aware of the darkness inside him,” says creator Carlton Cruse to Entertainment Weekly.

“There’s sweet charming Norman and then there’s this darker creature that inhabits his soul.”

At the conclusion of season one, the Bates Motel is lacking customers; Norman appears to be a murderer; Dylan’s caught in a drug ring; and Norma’s estranged brother is set to pay a visit.

Michael Vartan will be joining the cast as George, a new love interest for Norma (Vera Farmiga). He’s a “A charming divorcé who catches the attention of Norma.”

“He’s everything she ever hoped for in a man,” Farmiga tells TV Guide of Vartan’s George.

“She’s finally finding some stability with a partner after a pretty bad track record,” Vartan says of Norma’s new romance. “Hopefully she won’t mess it up.” The two meet at a party thrown by George’s sister, who’s trying to play matchmaker. “He is immediately taken by Norma and is very intrigued by how mysterious she is,” Vartan says. “We go on a double date with the sister and her husband, and Norma struggles to fit in.”

The IBTimes lists the other new cast members and their characters:
