According to the report, Al Hasan who played in the recent drawn test series against New Zealand was withdrawn from the opening one dayer against the Black Caps in Dhaka last night and is now under observation in hospital.

Team doctors say dengue fever was confirmed via blood testing on the 26-year-old all rounder.

Al Hasan is not the first celebrity actor or athlete to contract “break-bone fever” this year. In India, Bollywood stars Vir Das and Ranveer Singh both contracted dengue and recovered earlier this year.

In the Philippines, actress and star of the Philippine daytime drama, “Be Careful with my Heart”, Jodi Sta. Maria was diagnosed with the viral disease, Sta. Maria also recovered.

Dengue is a mosquito-borne, potentially fatal disease that affects between 50 and 100 million people in tropical and subtropical regions every year, causing fever and muscle and joint aches.

According to the World Health Organization, Dengue and dengue hemorrhagic fever are present in urban and suburban areas in the Americas, South-East Asia, the Eastern Mediterranean and the Western Pacific and dengue fever is present mainly in rural areas in Africa.
